Jazmin Ealden is a performer, researcher, educator and arts administrator based in Perth, Australia. She specialises in contemporary-classical saxophone performance and research into collaborative practice. In 2018, Jazmin completed a Bachelor of Music Honours (First Class) at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) where she studied under Dr. Matthew Styles.
Recent performance opportunities for Jazmin include solo recitals in Shanghai, Perth and Melbourne, orchestral performances with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and the Vienna Pops Orchestra, orchestral solos in Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances (WAAPA), Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances, Ravel’s Bolero and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition (WAYO), and leading ‘Phone Co.; WAAPA’s dynamic saxophone ensemble. In 2018, she was also selected as a finalist in WAAPA's prestigious Warana Concerto Competition and the WAAPA Young Performer of the Year competition. Outside of WAAPA, Jazmin has been invited to perform with organisations including the Perth Orchestra Project where she performed Philip Glass' 'Glassworks,' and St Georges College Orchestra, as well as directing her own concert project ‘The Living Saxophone;’ premiering contemporary works for saxophone. Jazmin’s performance activities have been further enhanced by her research on performer-composer collaboration and multi-stylistic saxophone performance. She is excited to continue to promote innovative, multi-stylistic works for saxophone.
Before moving to Perth, Jazmin completed a Bachelor of Music at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU). Throughout this time, she held the chair of Concert Master in the Queensland Conservatorium Saxophone Orchestra (QCSO) and frequently performed with the ensemble in school concerts, workshops, and various other musical projects. Jazmin was fortunate enough to travel with the QCSO for multiple performances at the XVII World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France. In addition to this, she performed with the ensemble at the Selmer Paris showroom and as a collaborative ensemble with students from the RNCM (Manchester). As a chamber musician and passionate arts administrator, she toured to Far North Queensland with Stitched Saxophone Quartet as part of a self-coordinated educational outreach program in both 2015 and 2016. These projects were both supported by funding from Arts Queensland and saw the ensemble perform around Cairns and surrounding areas.
Jazmin's future career goals include a focus on longer-term collaborative projects with artists from different backgrounds. She is a proud advocate for gender equality in the music industry and is looking forward to expanding her work in this area.
